I linked to this post in a post about my eight years as an Atheist. I was raised in a Christian home but rebelled and lived as an atheist/agnostic in my late teens and early twenties.

I, too, love the Lewis quote.

I loved this! I too was raised as an atheist, and after doing a term paper on trying to disprove there was a God my senior year in high school He saved me anyway! Isn’t God NEAT? I really enjoyed finding your blog! (((((HUGS))))) sandi

Beautiful description of Lent, Jennifer. Being a lifelong Protestant, Lent isn’t a habit for me. But it may be now and in the future. What a powerful reminder of God’s “otherness.” There’s nothing else that will satisfy our thirst.

Commenting primarily on the beginning of your post, as it relates to... actually, most of the rest of your blog:

I was raised nominally Catholic, so God was always kind of a specter in my life, and I "came home" and dove head first into the church at a fairly young age (19, not that I'm old now), but even so I often find myself relating to your comparisons of pre-conversion life to your life now. I begin to suspect we all suffer the same emptiness, albeit in different ways and to varying degrees, until we willfully accept God into our lives.

Your taste buds are slowly changing. This sounds like what St. Francis of Assisi meant when he described his conversion. It begins with ‘the sweet becoming bitter’…and then later…’the bitter becoming sweet.’

Brilliant, Jen. Thank you so much. This is why Lent has come to feel so luxurious to me. The fullness and joy of simply resting in God, spending more time with Him, laying aside distractions and idols– these are what feed my soul.
