Novena to the Holy Spirit

descent holy spirit Novena to the Holy SpiritFor those of you who like to pray novenas, here’s a reminder that the Novena to the Holy Spirit starts tomorrow (Friday) and will end on the eve of Pentecost. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this for months! I did it last year and found it to be incredibly powerful. It’s a nine-day series of prayers focusing on the gifts of the Holy Spirit:

  1. Wisdom: Desire for the things of God, and to direct our whole life and all our actions to His honor and glory
  2. Understanding: Enable us to know more clearly the mysteries of faith
  3. Counsel: Warn us of the deceits of the devil, and of the dangers to salvation
  4. Fortitude: Strengthen us to do the will of God in all things
  5. Knowledge: Enable us to discover the will of God in all things
  6. Piety: Love God as a Father, and obey Him because we love Him
  7. Fear of the Lord: Have a dread of sin and fear of offending God

I won’t be posting the daily prayers here, but here’s a printable version of the entire novena. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Thank you for the reminder, Jen! It is indeed a wonderful novena.

I’m going to do it! I’m trying to get in a habit of more prayer so this is my “excuse”.
It’s funny how sometimes you (I) just need someone to place something right in front of your (my) face in order to get started. I know that I could start a novena any day of the week! But I didn’t know about this particular one so this will be very special. God bless you for mentioning it.

Tilly (my 8 year old) was just asking if we would be praying a novena after she heard about the Apostles praying at Mass.
Thanks for the link. It looks great.
    God Bless, E

We learned this Novena at a retreat a few weeks ago. You can contact the Apostles of the Holy Spirit via their website and request a free booklet of the Novena version they publish, and they also have an on-line version perfect of for sending to your phone or portable.
