Five years ago I had never once believed in God, not even as a child. All my life I was a content atheist; it was simply obvious to me that God did not exist. I thought that religion and reason were incompatible, and eventually became vocally anti-Christian. In 2005 I began to have doubts about atheism and started this blog to ask questions of believers. Long story short, I blogged my way from lifelong atheism to Catholicism (my husband and I both entered the Catholic Church in 2007). I now write about faith after atheism. News from Fr. Joseph Langford
I know that, like me, many of you are big fans of the amazing books Mother Teresa's Secret Fire and In the Shadow of our Lady, by Fr. Joseph Langford, whom Mother Teresa chose to be the co-founder of her priests' community. Both books are in my top-10 list of "most life-changing books I ever read." Anyway, earlier this week I received an email from Fr. Langford that I wanted to share (with his permission):

I have been off the radar for a while due to my recent diagnosis of blood and bone cancer (multiple myeloma). I have just begun chemo and started my long march -- either back to health and a chance to keep writing and serving, or on to eternal life through a share in Jesus' priestly victimhood. I am not sure which to ask more insistently for, though the one thing I ask daily is the grace to live this infirmity in gratitude and with a smile. All the same, if you would be so kind as to ask your readers for a prayer or two, it will be much appreciated. God bless you and them.

Father, I'll be praying for you!
I am so sorry to hear of Fr. Joseph's cancer. I will be praying for him and seeking Blessed Mother Teresa's intercession.

Father Langford is in my prayers.
I'll be praying.
At your recommendation, I bought his book In The Shadow of His Wings, and took it with me on Silent Retreat in September. Such a beautifully written and powerful story of faith in action. He is an incredible man and an incredible priest. I will surely be praying for him.
We will definitely keep him in our prayers.
My thoughts go to the Father . . .
I will also be praying for Fr. Langford. His book Mother Teresa's Secret Fire, and especially the "Guided Meditation" chapter have been very meaningful to me.
Fr. Langford: Please remember that in this year for priests, many others will be praying for suffering and ill priests, even if they don't know your name.
I too whisper a prayer for a man whose words and wisdom have graced my life with truth I needed to hear.
