7 Quick Takes Friday

7 quick takes sm1 7 Quick Takes Friday

It’s all you today! I’m here at the EWTN studios for LOTR  and won’t have time to write my own quick takes. Here is the view from my bedroom at the guest house:

It’s especially cool after reading Mother Angelica’s biography. To see all those satellite dishes is to witness the power of what one faithful person can do when she makes the decision to fully, unreservedly turn her life over to God.

  2. I can’t be the only one who keeps thinking LOTR refers to Lord of the Rings. Keep in mind that you could go in costume, Jen!

“as a cradle catholic my story is rather lame.”

While I do love a good conversion (or reversion) story, I think that we often undersell our own faith stories as cradle Catholics. Chesterton (convert to Catholicism that he was) was able to make a very interesting story of the idea of being a “cradle Christian” by talking about the man who sailed away from Britain to find a new land, and who then landed and discovered that the wild country on which he planted the union Jack was none other than jolly old England. Is it not possible to have told a similarly good story without even leaving England (or without leaving the Church)?

I hadn’t seen the previous post about LOTR so I had to click on your link and see HOW you were going to be on Lord of the Rings…lol. Funny : )
I hope you had a great time.
BTW: I’d be glad to put up the wholefamily if you end up in the Philadelphia metro area : ) We don’t have a lot of extra space, but we have NO scorpions!

    from Bill Foley

I aplogize that my comment does not apply to the article in question, but I have come across a paragraph that is one of the most beautiful things that I have ever read, and I want to disseminate it over the Internet.

    Human Person and the Tabernacle

Paragraph from page 344 of Volume 1 of The Mystical Evolution in the Development and Vitality of the Church by Father Juan Arintero, O.P.

“One day, at the time of Communion, Blessed Mariana of Jesus, the Lily of Madrid, being unusually aware of her lowliness and unworthiness, said to her Lord: “My Lord, the tabernacle in which Thou art is much more clean and beautiful.” Christ answered her: “But it cannot love me.” “From this,” said the holy nun, I understood how much more Christ prefers to reside in our souls than in gold or silver or precious jewels which are inanimate creatures incapable of love.”

  15. Was SO wondering what Tolkien thing was going on at EWTN til I linked through… Thanks for both the clarification and the relief that I am not the only one in the world whose mind translates LOTR into an adventure through Middle Earth :) !!
