7 Quick Takes, Donaldson-style

pope awesome lg 7 Quick Takes, Donaldson styleI’m on a plane heading to Bismarck, so this week’s edition of 7 Quick Takes will be hosted by Cari Donaldson! Head on over to her place for the linky list.

Cari has some big news: her memoir was released just this week! What better way to celebrate than to guest host Quick Takes? (Wait. Don’t answer that.)

The book is called Pope Awesome, and it’s a really fun read. It begins when Cari and her husband were a quasi-New Age couple who were suspicious of organized religion and said they’d never have children, and it ends with them being hardcore Catholics with six kids, so you know that’s going to be a good story. The title of the book comes from her son, who once said, “Now I’ll be pope: Pope Awesome the First, with my Swiss Guard army. And if my army men don’t give me any new video games, I’ll punch them in the face.”

It’s warm and funny and uplifting — and, most importantly, Jim Gaffigan likes it — so you should definitely read it. You can find it on Amazon here.

You all have fun without me, and say a prayer for my talks at the Thirst Conference! And if you find yourself yearning to know what is inconveniencing me at any particular moment as I travel, you can count on minute-by-minute updates on Twitter. See you next week!

Clearly I need this book. Thank you for the recommendation.

Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that Bismarck is going to be a teensy bit chilly. I hope you packed warm clothing – you know, the sort of stuff that you don’t need in the climate inhospitable to human life, a.k.a. Texas? All joking aside, have fun and be safe!
Smoochagator recently posted..Always something there to remind me.

    Hi there,
I don’t have a blog, but I’ve been reading yours for a while now. In fact, I’ve never commented on a blog before but I just had to tell you that my husband loooooves “The Long Ships”. He’s purposefully reading it slowly to prolong it. We would have never read it if you hadn’t blogged about it, so thank you!! Do you have any other recommendations along the same vein?
Also, I just ordered Pope Awesome and I’m really looking forward to it!!
    Have a great weekend!
