Summer break!

Looking for 7 QUICK TAKES FRIDAY? Head over to Kathryn’s!

When I woke up on Monday morning, I realized that in the past seven days I had…

Gone to Connecticut…

ct1 Summer break!

ct2 Summer break!

And then to an extremely packed trip to New York…

nyc1 Summer break!

nyc2 Summer break!

Then back to Austin…

Then to a speaking engagement in San Antonio — with the kids…

sa 1a Summer break!

sa 2a Summer break!

Mass at the San Jose mission, founded in the 1700s.

And back to Austin again.

On Monday, Myquillyn Smith, a.k.a. The Nester, wrote a post about being overwhelmed and distracted in which she talked about taking a “staycation.”¬†(I am not doing the post justice with that description — just read it. It’s wonderful.)

Myquillyn’s book was released the same day as mine, so it’s probably not a coincidence that I almost wept with joy at the idea of taking some time off from…everything. I wouldn’t call what I’m going to do a staycation, since nothing with six young children can ever have the suffix -cation attached to it, but I am going to focus on getting on top of things for a while.

All that is to say, I’m going to be (mostly) offline for the next two weeks. I’ll still be around on social media and will try to reply to emails here and there, but basically I’m going to stop trying to create anything until I have some time to catch my breath.

Kathryn will be hosting 7 Quick Takes Friday this week and next. See you in a couple of weeks!

P.S. Speaking of The Nester, I finally started reading her book, The Nesting Place, and it’s one of the most inspiring things I’ve read in a long time. It’s a sort of memoir / manifesto about appreciating the home God has given you and working with what you have to make it beautiful. I’m so inspired by it that I might even paint a wall during my break! Read this book. You’ll love it.

P.P.S. Comments closed¬†so that I don’t have to interrupt my break to delete spammers telling me “ur site is the top of the internet.”
